The Insurance Authority has proposed that insurers should set up a Participating Business Committee (PBC) as an independent advisory party in respect of the participating business. Many FASHK members are qualified to fulfil these positions.

 

The following FASHK members have expressed interest in serving as independent PBC members.  Insurers may select and request from ASHK the contact details of specific members and connect with them. Please complete and return the below form to [email protected]

Following the success of the previous Health Insurance Conference, which saw close to 100 attendees, this one-day event aim to foster knowledge-sharing and interaction among actuaries, healthcare providers, regulators, insurance professionals, technology providers, and consumer groups.

The theme for this year is "Private Healthcare Sustainability", and the organising committee is seeking expressions of interest for speakers. 
Potential topics include: -

  1. Evolution of Medical Insurance Products: Hyper-Personalization & Affordability
  2. Aging Population Strategies: Long-Term Care & Retirement Health Products
  3. AI & Big Data Revolution: Underwriting, Fraud Detection, and Claims
  4. Cutting-Edge Medical Treatments: Cost Implications and Risk Modelling
  5. Pandemic Resilience: Reinsurance Strategies & Post-COVID Lessons

We are excited to announce the ASHK Innovation Conference 2025 and cordially invite actuaries and professionals from related fields to come together and exchange ideas under the theme of "Actuaries in the AI Era: Modern technology, Timeless Wisdom and Insights"

 

This one-day event promises to delve into the most pressing topics and cutting-edge innovations shaping the actuarial profession. Our Organising Committee is currently seeking dynamic speakers to contribute to the conference. Topics can include (but not limited to) the following innovations:

  1. Actuaries and Artificial Intelligence
    - Development of practical Data Science and AI use cases in actuarial work that serves the public interest.
    - Ethical considerations, governance frameworks, and regulatory implications of AI deployment.
    - Leveraging AI and big data analytics for innovation in improving accuracy, efficiency and solutioning.
  2. Innovation in addressing Client Needs
    - Innovative approaches to emerging risks, including environmental, technological, and societal challenges.
    - Expanding actuarial roles into new sectors and industries beyond traditional boundaries.
    - Actuarial innovation in product development responding to market and economic uncertainties.

    - Adoption of automation technologies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
    - Evolution of actuarial data infrastructure to support advanced analytics and digital transformation.

The ASHK is pleased to be a supporting organization for the 18th Asia Insurance CFO Summit 2025.  A number of ASHK members will share their insights at the event.

The insurance industry is navigating an era of unprecedented transformation, shaped by economic uncertainty, evolving regulatory frameworks, digital disruption, and shifting
customer expectations. CFOs, once primarily responsible for financial stewardship, are now expected to be architects of resilience, innovation, and sustainable growth.

The Actuarial Society of Hong Kong (ASHK) is seeking to position actuaries front and centre in this new post-pandemic world. The ASHK would like to invite general insurance practitioners, actuaries, data scientists, entrepreneurs, dreamers and pioneers to its ASHK General Insurance Conference 2025 in Hong Kong.

 

Following the success of the previous General Insurance Conference where over 100 people attended, this one-day event aims to foster increased knowledge-sharing and interaction between members of the insurance community. The organising committee is seeking expressions of interest for speakers.  Themes could include (but not limited to): -

  1. Emerging issues affecting insurers/reinsurers e.g. climate risk, cyber risk, crypto risk
  2. Change in the General Insurance landscape.
  3. Impact of regulatory changes e.g., Risk Based Capital, IFRS17
  4. Impact of innovations and technological developments in the industry e.g., electric vehicles, AI      

Topics could cover traditional Pricing and Reserving or Innovation and New ideas, or other hot spots like Climate change, ESG, etc.

Call for Papers

 

Following the success of the previous IFRS Seminars, the 2023 ASHK IFRS 17 Conference, one of ASHK’s flagship events, will be held as a full day event this year. IFRS 17 has been implemented, and this year’s conference will focus on the practical aspects of the standard under the theme of “IFRS 17 – Step into Day 2”.  The conference is specially designed for actuaries and insurance professionals who are responsible for financial reporting in compliance with IFRS or who are involved with IFRS reporting as part of their work.

 

The conference Organising Committee is currently seeking dynamic speakers and insightful panellists to contribute to the conference. Topics can include (but not limited to) the followings:

 

1) Presentation and disclosure

    • Key observations from the presentation and disclosure
    • Benchmarking of IFRS results and key metrics used
    • Approaches used for IFRS results production/ management
    • Communicating results to various stakeholders
    • Cross reporting basis comparison and implication to other reporting basis, e.g. embedded value
    • Presentation to investors & responses from market
    • Auditor’s role and observations

 

2) Day 2 enhancements

    • Issues facing during the production of results
    • Change/ emerge in methodology
    • Observations from different solution vendors

 

3) Use of technology

    • Making use of advance technology
    • Process redesign, automation for working day timetable optimization
    • Data analytics / How IFRS 17 solutions & systems are being leveraged for analytic purpose?

 

4) Business implication/ others

    • Business implications - e.g. interaction with HKRBC, ALM, Par management, product design, pricing, KPI, etc.
    • In-house experience sharing - implementation journey, advice, and forward looking
    • Product innovation/ product design under IFRS 17
    • Budgeting process under IFRS 17
    • Panel discussion on latest view on IFRS 17 development, post-implementation priorities and longer-term implications

This one-day event promises to delve into the most pressing topics and cutting-edge innovations shaping the actuarial profession. Our Organising Committee is currently seeking dynamic speakers and insightful panellists to contribute to the conference.
